Teawaukee is the result of 10+ years of combined experience in beverage retail, clinical nursing, and a meticulous study of Western Herbalism’s role within integrative healthcare. It was founded by myself, Jonathan Lehman and my wife, Anisa in 2024. We are headquartered in Milwaukee, WI.

While serving as a Platoon Leader in the U.S Army, I was required to spend extended periods of time in austere, high-stress environments. During these events, hypothermia and sleep deprivation were two of the most common issues that plagued unit morale. After many failed attempts to improve my soldiers’ dispositions, I eventually discovered the most effective solution to keeping them warm and awake was in fact… hot water. I know that doesn’t sound groundbreaking, but trust me - after hours of marching through the woods in the rain, NOTHING felt better than a steaming hot cup of ANYTHING. Before long, instant coffee packets and old tea bags became our most valuable possessions during field training exercises.

After leaving the military in 2017, I worked as a General Manager for a successful cold-pressed juice and tea shop in Beverly Hills, CA. Although the long nights in the rain were gone, I noticed many people still craved a hot cup of coffee or tea to help them through their busy days. This observation affirmed my passion for providing comfort to others while simultaneously promoting a healthy lifestyle. Whether it was for soldiers or suits, curating and serving herbal drinks made me feel like I was making the world a better place. After years of learning the “nuts and bolts” of how to operate a successful retail business, Anisa and I moved back home to Wisconsin with the intention of building Teawaukee from the ground up. Our mission? Serve herbal drinks with exceptional taste.

As fate would have it, Anisa’s experience as an Emergency Room Nurse had motivated her to discover how holistic forms of medicine could help heal both acute and chronic health conditions. Her favorite practice? Herbal tea! As a trained herbalist, Anisa has curated Teawaukee’s entire selection of products with the intention of promoting good health while simultaneously providing an exceptional flavor experience. Meanwhile, I have assumed the responsibility of operating our business with a customer-first focus. Due to this approach, our curation and distribution processes require the following standards from suppliers: every herb is ethically sourced, cultivated without chemicals, and every package is recyclable.
